Countdown to MPF: Coral Springs Interview

We are huge fans of Coral Springs. Jo and the gang are some of the nicest people we’ve had the pleasure of meeting over the years. It’s always a source of excitement knowing they’ll be in Manchester for the weekend. Here is Jo’s response to MPF’s crucial questions.

How would you introduce yourselves to a punk fan who’s not heard of you yet?

We’re a poppy punk rock band with a lot of skate punk influences, so a combination of fast riffs and catchy choruses to sing along to!

Which of your songs/releases are you most proud of, and why?

I’m actually most proud of Ghost, which is our most sensitive and emo song. Maybe you can even call it a ballad! I love the buildup. But the new songs coming up, like Mayday and Father, which just have been released, make me very happy.

Tell us a secret about your band.

None of us listen to the band where we got our name from anymore, even though that overlap in different taste in music was the whole idea of choosing this name.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

Less Than Jake in Amsterdam!

Who would be in your supergroup?

This is a tough one, since I listen to a lot of different genres. So this can be an odd group. Okay, here we go. First of all: Rody Walker of Protest the Hero on vocals! Scott Henderson from PMX on guitar, Luke Yates for additional vocals and guitar, One Hidden Frame’s Emil on drums and finally Brian Robinson from A Wilhelm Scream on bass. And I need Jon Gaunt to play the fiddle, even though that doesn’t make any sense in this surprisingly decent punk/metal group (if I say so myself).

If you were a biscuit/cookie, what would you be and why?

A Manner, you know? Those Austrian things? The reason why I am a Manner is the same reason why Shrek is an onion: lots of layers.

Oasis or Blur?

Oasis, because this is obviously a trick question.

Too much ska or too little ska?

Exactly the right amount of ska for me personally, even though that amount is different for everyone in this band.

Dogs or Cats?

Cats all day every day. When I was 4, I was forbidden to talk about cats for a full week in school. Traumatized.

Who’s your favorite superhero?

Dug the dog from Up.

Help us settle the age-old bread debate. What do you call a roll / cob / bap / barm / batch / muffin / other (specify)?

In Dutch these are called “bolletje”, which literally translates to “tiny ball”. So I guess we would call them tiny balls..?

Finally, which bands are you most excited to see at MPF2024?

Call us biased, but One Hidden Frame are almost always the best band on any line-up they’re part of so we’re stoked to get to see them again. We’re also looking forward to see what surprises Hike The Peak and Raisin Awareness have in store. It is nice to see our friends in Antillectual again! Hot Water Music and A Wilhelm Scream are the obvious suspects, of course.
